About the Authors

Donald Miller grew up in Houston, Texas. Leaving home at the age of 21, he traveled across the country until he ran out of money in Portland, Oregon, where he lives today. Harvest House Publishers released his first book, Prayer and the Art of Volkswagen Maintenance, in 2000. Two years later, after having audited classes at Portland’s Reed College, Don wrote Blue Like Jazz, which would slowly become a New York Times bestseller.

In addition to serving as the host of CONVERGENCE, Don has recently teamed up with Steve Taylor and Ben Pearson to write the screenplay for Blue Like Jazz the Movie.

Don is the founder of The Mentoring Project, a not-for-profit foundation which partners with working to recruit 10,000 mentors through 1,000 churches as an answer to the crisis of fatherless-ness in America.

Don’s latest book, A Million Miles in a Thousand Years, humorously and tenderly chronicles Don’s experience with filmmakers as they edit his life for the screen, hoping to make it less boring. He then shares the principles storytellers use to make a story meaningful and exciting, exploring their affect when he applies those principles to his actual life. Of his new book, Don says: “It might be the greatest book ever written. I don’t think anybody is going to read a book again after they read my new one. I think God is proud of me. I am going to make a killing off this thing and I’m going to use the money to go to space.”

Dr. John Townsend is a psychologist, author, speaker, leadership coach and consultant who, for more than two decades, has been helping millions of people grow spiritually, emotionally and relationally. A prolific writer, he has authored or co-authored 21 books which have sold over 5 million copies, including the 2 million-seller Gold Medallion Award-winning book Boundaries. Dr. Townsend has two regular television programs on the Church Communication Network, “Ultimate Leadership,” for leadership growth and outcomes; and “Solutions,” a relationship lecture series. He has also appeared on Fox news, Focus On the Family, Trinity Broadcasting Network, and other media venues. Dr. Townsend is a visiting professor at Dallas Theological Seminary. He is Clinical Director of the American Association of Christian Counselors. He has also served as president of the Christian Association for Psychological Studies, western division. He serves on the Board of Directors of Mustard Seed Ranch; a unique, faith-focused program that uses a ranch setting to assist children who have had severe struggles. He is also on the Board of Advisors for two other ministries, India Gospel League, which supports the needy in India, and Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS), a ministry to moms.  Born and raised in North Carolina, Dr. Townsend earned his BA in psychology at North Carolina State University, graduating with honors. He went on to obtain his Masters of Theology degree from Dallas Theological Seminary, again with honors, and a Masters and Ph.D in clinical psychology from Biola University in California.
